Scipio Creek Boardwalk and Overlook

Scipio Creek Boardwalk and Overlook is a short quarter-mile nature trail that leads to a deck overlooking the Apalachicola River. Located at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve’s former headquarters at the Mill Pond in Apalachicola, the packed gravel trail and boardwalk runs alongside Scipio Creek through a mosaic of hardwoods and wetlands.

Part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, this walk is excellent for birders or anyone wanting an easily accessible escape into nature. The half-mile (one way) path becomes a boardwalk that takes you through varying habitats and leads to a sizeable elevated platform with an incredible panoramic vista. A large telescope mounted on the deck is available for your viewing pleasure. Follow Market St. NW until it dead-ends at the Scipio Creek Boat Basin and the pavilion where the Farmer’s Market is held. Turn left and proceed uphill 0.1 mi. to the parking area and trailhead on the right. Open all year, sunrise to sunset.
